Contact Lens Exams & Fittings

Thinking about trying contact lenses? Whether you’re new to contacts or looking to switch brands, Urban Eyecare Optometrists makes the process straightforward, comfortable, and personalized.

First-time wearers

We start with a conversation. Your doctor will discuss your goals and lifestyle: are you interested in daily disposables for convenience, or monthly lenses for cost-effectiveness? Do you need them for school, work, sports, or special occasions? Perhaps you’re exploring myopia control options for your child, or you need multifocal lenses for both near and distance vision.
Based on your needs, vision, and eye health, your doctor determines the ideal lens type. We stock a large variety right here in our office, often eliminating the need to order trial lenses.
Next, you’ll attend a teaching session with our experienced team members. They’ll guide you through insertion, removal, and proper cleaning and disinfection methods.
Your doctor then assesses how the lenses fit on your eyes and checks your vision clarity. You’ll take the lenses home for a one-week trial period and then return for a follow-up appointment, where your doctor evaluates how the lenses are working. If adjustments are needed, we’ll take care of them.

Existing contact lens wearers

Already wearing contacts but curious about different options or brands? Maybe you’ve heard about newer technologies or want to try daily disposables instead of monthlies. We follow a similar process, starting with a discussion about your goals, then fitting you with trial lenses.

If you’re happy with your current brand and type of contact lenses, we make it even easier. During your annual comprehensive eye exam, we’ll discuss your vision, comfort, and overall satisfaction with your current lenses. If everything’s working well, we’ll arrange your contact lens prescription there and then.

The importance of finding the right fit

Contact lenses offer wonderful freedom from glasses for sports, activities, and social events. However, proper fitting is non-negotiable. A lens that’s too tight can restrict oxygen flow to your cornea, potentially causing damage over time. A lens that’s too loose becomes uncomfortable and may move around excessively.

Our doctors perform all contact lens fittings personally, using corneal topography to assess and monitor your corneal health throughout your contact lens journey. Routine assessments during annual exams ensure no corneal damage develops from contact lens wear.

Wide range of options

We fit both soft and rigid contact lenses in various types to suit different needs: single vision spherical lenses, toric lenses for astigmatism, multifocal lenses for presbyopia, and specialized myopia control lenses. We offer daily disposable, bi-weekly, and monthly replacement schedules. We carry trusted brands including Acuvue (J&J/VistaKon), Bausch + Lomb, Alcon, and CooperVision, giving you access to the latest contact lens technologies.
